If I had to guess, foxes also eat insects, even if they would rather go for larger prey, like small mammals, birds, reptiles, and such. Every predator's favourite rabbit is probably on top of the menu. But a fox can't always get what it wants.

The small cast of characters really makes one wonder who the "close connection" could be. While the author is not limited to characters introduced so far, my mind immediately went to Goro's coworker, the one who always goes drinking with Mogami-sama. It has been noted that as the saijo inari-sama, Mogami-sama exerts a great amount of influence on things. The coworker might be influenced by (or hiding behind) Mogami-sama's power to a negative, rather than positive effect. Thanks as always for the chapter, saursa.
