A good way to close it, the old flashback made me think she was some stupid bitch, but is more that she wants to be the lead and is honest about it, being with someone superior messed her up internally and she couldn't stand it, they are good together, just can't be in that relationship.
Of course, had they talked more...maybe it woul dhave worked out.
The old flashback made me think of Jet wife in Cowboy Bebop, she separated from him because he was too perfect, and she detested how he was always right, so she left like a mad bitch, and there it did ruin her life and left Jet fractured.
