there is nothing wrong with his story telling you can dislike his redraws ( and the number of times he does it which I would agree with ) but they cant find anything that is actually badly written all they can do is go I prefer the WC version

I've been following the webcomic for a long time--since around the middle of the monster association arc--and I think this was actually my favorite overall chapter of all time??

Helps that it was a pretty long one, but having Genos muddy his own programming by looking at the face of the true symbol of justice (Saitama), combined with the gag with King's biological data, combined with Saitama having such a cool dialogue where he actually understands that Drive Knight is programmed to GENUINELY BELIEVE he represents "justice" (way smarter than Saitama usually is, though it was of course followed up by the "smack an appliance to make it work right" gag), combined with Drive Knight trying to use Saitama's own biological data but his machine parts not being tough enough to deal real damage with it... and Saitama destroying him with no malice and telling him to rest....

I loved this chapter so much. I've felt similar feelings from the webcomic before, and it's qualitatively similar to the feeling I get when reading the most peak chapters of One Piece. And sadly, it's the type of feeling that Murata just refuses to incorporate into the manga, focusing only being some kind of action flipbook.



Murata has never made the story better. He makes the art prettier (which is fine) but also makes the action scenes more action-y which then takes away from the core of Saitama's character (that nothing is hard for him anymore, and that he is a hero not for the fights but simply out of genuinely attempting to implement justice). He also adds filler but none of the filler has ever been more interesting than the webcomic.

I checked in on the manga in the middle of the Garou fight after not reading it for years and it was just embarrassing how anti-OPM it is.

This is not true. Saitama has consistently been one of the smartest characters in the series, especially in the social department. He always understands a character better than everyone else. I can cite his first public appearance after the meteor, where he was shamed by everyone, his monologue during the fight against Garou, his understanding of Amai Mask, don't even get me starts on his fight against tatsumaki, and now this moment. He is always the only one who truly understands people on a deeper level.

This is not true. Saitama has consistently been one of the smartest characters in the series, especially in the social department. He always understands a character better than everyone else. You, on the other hand, make a compelling point--it is qualitatively similar to the Amai Mask situation.

Generally I think of Saitama as only empathetically smart ("high EQ") in the same way as Luffy--he will have good intuition for people but never grasp a complex situation fully. But I may not be giving Saitama enough credit, good point. I don't think Luffy would've fully understood the deal with Drive Knight if he were being attacked, for contrast--he may have understood that Drive Knight was a good person (like Smoker) but he doesn't really put thought into one's actual motivations. So from now on I'll keep this core difference in mind lol

Saitama was always fast when it come to grasp the kind of people he is dealing with, with Fubuki he talked about she is obsessed with success and being recognized, with Tatsumaki he see through her motive for becoming a hero, with Amai Mask he realized he wanted to be a hero deep down despite being a monster, with Garou he understood that Garou said he wanted to play the villain for the world but deep down he wanted to be a hero.

He see people as people, simple and straight, he is not dumb, he just doesn't like to make thing too complex, like how he said, make it simple and short.

Saitama's intelligence is not in how to live and act to blend in with others but in how to grasp the essence of himself and the others. That is why he realized that he is not fitted in society from before he even worked as a hero already. That is the kind of intelligence you often see in the enlightened one being portraited. TBH, I can very easily imagine Saitama live as a monk or a priest just fine.

The major problem I have with the manga serialization is that Saitama is dumbed down for some reason. My favorite moment in the entire series is his monologue against Garou, with a close second being his realization of Tatsumaki and Fubuki's personalities, and I think the manga just kills these moments.

In fact, Saitama’s monologue in the manga is much worse.

And unfortunately for Genos... he's likely the cyborg that killed his family, but his memories were modified.

That is, if ONE-sensei isn't cooking a red herring, maybe. If it's some third-party out-of-nowhere then it's going to be a lot less satisfying.

But one clue that it might actually be Kuseno is he's the only one who has directly tested Saitama so a third-party is looking unlikely.

EDIT: One possibly I just thought up is Genos was cyberized by Kuseno because he had health issues, but something went wrong with the process and he went out of control, killing his family/the village. Kuseno covered it up for Genos' sake, but the guilt of indirectly massacring everyone built-up overtime. So, maybe Kuseno is trying to look like a bad guy so Genos can take "revenge" and free Genos and himself.

Bro, I love that theory.

I think people cope hard with the fact that ONE isn't some infallible writing god by scapegoating Murata. It's one thing to recognize that manga fucked up a number of things, but it's another to direct hate towards a talented artist.

I just mean what he did/said at the start looked like regular concern from a good friend, so from the 'get go' is inaccurate, I do know him dying suddenly while saitama is nearby is suspicious but just suspicious, Saitama 'testing' him and believing him felt like it meant something.
