there is no difference in overall quality opm manga takes the webcomic and expands it to be more then it originally was ( including new characters and allows the characters to be more then what thy were in WC the changes dont make it worse then the webcomic ) cosmic garou isnt worse then wc garou garou having a different ending isnt bad
I think the manga¹ is worse because it objectively misunderstands its own characters. It sanitizes every hero so they can do no wrong.
How can you miss the mark this much on Garou -- a traumatized boy who wants to rule the world through absolute evil and hence achieve world peace -- by turning him into a true hero who can do no wrong and is evil only because God possessed him? And the manga dares to shift the focus away from Garou to give it to Blast!?
All of that just to end up backed into such a corner that the only solution was time travel, causing Garou to forget all of his development, only for him to immediately cede and become a good guy -- a hero, for that matter -- who is the disciple of Bang.
It's the same for Tatsumaki. "No, our little queen cannot do wrong; she's acting this way because she has to protect Fubuki from an evil association." I'm sorry, but this is just dumb. She is also a traumatized kid and is ultimately a toxic sister who wants Fubuki completely isolated from society because "reasons." Any justification is just a made-up excuse to fit the conclusion. The manga also strips out the heart of the confrontation: Saitama, an acquaintance of Fubuki, demonstrating that friends are more than bloodsucking parasites.
The manga ALSO misses the mark on the ninja arc, where the focus was meant to be on our two goats, Sonic and Flash. Instead, it places all the emphasis on freaking God again, taking a gag character who is "the man" and turning him into a misunderstood character possessed by God (there is no true evil in the manga, apparently). And of course, you have to make this about Blast.
And all of this is permeated with generic power scaling, forgetting what the point of the manga is--"One-Punch Man" -- and turning it into your run-of-the-mill shonen.
So, saying that the manga is on par with the webcomic -- I'm sorry, but I cannot agree with you.
Is the art great? Absolutely. I always take Murata's drawings as the true character designs (even if Murata is not as good at paneling as ONE is), but everything else misses the mark.
The manga is basically a dumbed-down version of the webcomic. It does not trust the intelligence of its readers to comprehend complex nuances, so it turns the lore into masticated food for babies -- who still cannot digest complex food -- and at the same time fills it with lipids, which are the generic shonen fights, so the babies can feel satiety.
What we get in the end is a generic shonen devoid of complex content, but one that will certainly keep people hyped with powerscaling.
¹I will refrain from making assumptions about who the true culprit is behind the decline in quality of the manga. Whether it is Murata writing it, a bipolar ONE, or the editors, in the end, the result remains the same.
