manga authors are just really committed to trying to redeem even the shittiest characters man :aquadrink:
Well if you read a black book (partial or completely) and listen to some people's interpretations of it... some son of god already redeemed all of us whether we asked for it or not.
Perhaps some authors are really trying to redeem people in fiction because too many people in reality are simply irredeemable. Gotta cope in writing or whatever the last bastion of freedom is these days with AI generators, mega churches, and morons in politics - all of which are tainted with evil and malice by the shittiest people.

TBH, in Ruby and Illoyd case, both of them are at fault.

Ruby is too arrogant, tyranical and dumb, but she isn't really evil. She didn't even know about the danger level of the places Illoyd need to go to get the ingredients for her alchemy. She even really thought about Illoyd as just having decent magic power but his skill in retrieving ingredients is lacking. Yeah, girl is dumb and has one-track mind but not really evil.

Illoyd, I think he is not really blameless. If he can just let Ruby know about the danger of the places he need to go get the ingredients then she would not let him do something so dangerous, Even if Ruby is an abusive girlfriend, she still didn't want him die. He is at fault for not standing up for himself at all and just do everything he is asked. Yeah, he is the kind who would die of overworking if he join a black company.

So a haughty proud girl with one track mind who is obsessed with success and a yes man boyfriend who can't say no :aquadrink: Both of them are talented and hard-working though.
There's also the fact that they were completely out of touch with how the other felt due to lack of communication, their different opinions about the orphanage food was a perfect show of that

They basically never really understood each other and only stayed together like this for so long cause they thought the other felt the same way lol
so true bestie, the victim is always at fault for not resisting enough :wooow:
Bad faith argument cause you're ignoring the context of the situation, is what Ruby did bad? Absolutely, no excuses, but she's also not some purposely malicious abusive person either

Lloyd is a victim of her abuse yes, but neither side truly tried to understand the other, they simply assumed they felt the same, perfect example of that is how he couldn't understand why Ruby didn't like the orphanage food

Lloyd is not at fault for enduring the abuse but both are at fault for the lack of communication and wrong assumptions

I think one thing some people can't understand is that Ruby is basically really fucked up mentally due to their shitty upbring, one could argue she's even emotionally stunted in part due to Lloyd always coddling her all those years

Does that excuse her actions? Absolutely not, I agree she needs to go through some suffering of her own so she can grow as a person and self reflect, realize how she was horrible to Lloyd

Mind you I say that in part because she's literally a child, isn't she like fucking 15? I would agree she's not redeemable if she was an adult but the story makes pretty clear she literally doesn't know better and never realized just how bad she was

It doesn't help that they were pretty clearly codependent and Lloyd always just did whatever she wanted, which never gave her chance to realize what she's doing is bad and grow as a person

Lloyd is partially to blame for their relationship cause Ruby had no power over him, really, she's literally nothing without him, he simply chose to take all the abuse and never complain until he finally got fed up with her when in practice he should have told her to fuck off a long time ago instead of blindly obeying her every whim

Did everyone just gloss over the fact that Lloyd,at least in this chapter, didn't misread the confession? Most manga protagonist would just brush off as "She means as a friend" or whatever. still have the cliche side characters interrupt the moment, but the character didn't immediately forget or brush off

Welp, there's the spirit dragon. Wanna bet Ruby's malicious-ness makes her fuse with that thing too?

We got??? An Iris confession???? Or a misunderstanding of one… Amazing chapter.

Item box interlude was interesting, kinda fucked how careless he is when it comes to maintenance though.

Also, I know I shouldn’t think about this that hard, but the amount of blood coming out of the archer’s nose has to be an astronomical amount, right? Given whatever is placed into the item box shrinks many magnitudes its actual world size.

Can’t wait for the next one. Thanks for the translation!

It's funny how some people act as if Ruby is a unredeemable monster as if she raped and murdered Lloyd family or something
She committed the cardinal sin of...being annoyed at the person bringing the reputation of their joint endeavour down with a job performance (a job they spent years mastering btw) that would've gotten him (politely) kicked to the curb by any other long ago.

If she was true evil she would've taken all his stuff, all his money to recoup the losses and teleported him into the middle of a monster den to be slain & devoured or something. Or just unceremoniously replaced by a charismatic playboy who doesn't have the word sorry in his vocabulary before Lloyd even thought of leaving. But no, she just wanted Lloyd to succeed at her level beside her and for people to stop talking smack about him (she has a shit attitude and sucks ass at communicating though, don't get me wrong here)

This really is one of the tamer "my previous party kicked me out" type stories I've read when I take a step back and really have a think about it lol

I genuinely didn't care about Lloyd and friend's shenanigans in this chapter. Seeing Ruby slowly start to change is more interesting especially more than milk toast boring character Iris' confession.
