This is especially true in real life, but it happens in manga and anime as well. Translators almost never have to remark on it because it doesn't really matter. But in this case, Stowie is insecure about what pronoun to use, and so I couldn't really get around it.

Thankfully, it's very rare for the subject of pronouns to come up in anime or manga. There's one pretty small scene in Your Name where the pronoun thing comes up as a bit of a joke, where the girl who's in the guy's body sort of cycles through pronouns until she gets it right. The English translation of that is very awkward, needless to say.
