Or, she's cosplaying a beloved character from her favorite book (since her fiance mentions they read books together), and the author of said book is having a book signing that she wants to attend, maybe.
Hell, maybe the comment he overheard and recounted referred to him and he's got a birthday or something coming up (that he's just not considering as being relevant), and she's planning something around the same concept of cosplaying from a novel as part of a celebration event for him, and wants it to be a surprise.

I definitely don't think it's something nefarious, but I am curious as to the ultimate reveal.
