So, Goro got important at work, took on more work, and had all the credit stolen by a scheming loser. It's not just Japan that has this problem.
Fr, there's a certain elongated muskrat that does it too... Also many people in history have done that sort of thing

Edit: Is no one getting the ELONgated MUSKrat joke? I see some confused reactions

There would be an IT audit if all those files went missing. And it would say which user deleted them.
Also is IT and the networked files are set up correctly they should be making regular back-ups that could be pulled. Even my big dumb American company does that.

Anyways, glad to see him confiding in his wife, relationships are built on trust.

Oh that kind of asshat. Cannot let a new rising star get in the way of my promotion path. Deliberate sabotage. Yeah let's put it this way.. I understand this one very well. Asked to print a file set, blame fell on me when one file was wrong and I was last in the file.

All genres must have their own selection of plot devices that aren't believable at all, but they just get used in lack of anything better. I've seen this same one before, as well. A corporate drama probably isn't the easiest type for a mangaka to write if they intend to keep it even a little bit down to Earth, yet still have some shady twists happen in it.

From what I heard, Japan's Corporate IT structures are surprisingly low tech compared with the country's own tech prowess, hell sending faxes is still very much a thing because of old heads in senior positions.

Given that, it could be that one of said seniors just went, "Eh, what can you do" in ignorance of the fact that such things can be investigated and that there are structures in place to restore said deleted files.....

....ooor, dude knew a guy who knew a guy who owes them some favours for covering up a career-ending fuck up, and thus was able to get away with it. Those slime balls pull shit like this when they know they can get away with it.

I vote the 3rd paragraph because theres no way big incompetence like this has to exist! But your first paragraph makes sense
