Well, Makoto didn't notice because the effect of the medication Illum was receiving weren't that strong to cause issues.

Plus it seems that Illum had figured out that the medication was having a negative affect on him, since he noticed how his emotions were getting uncontrollable when near Makoto.
And considering what he saw, its possible that Illum might have tried to avoid doing anything to Makoto or anyone related to him in the future.

But because Makoto ended up erasing Illum's memories of the past few hours.
Not only Illum forgot about the negative effects of the medication he noticed, but also what Makoto is like.
Thus allowing him to fall more into the trap of stronger medication.

I really hate that this and some stuff that happens later in WN try to pin the blame on Makoto like this, when he totally shouldn't care.

I don't see this as the story trying to blame Makoto or anything, it merely reinforce how Makoto just doesn't care about hyuman much, not ever since those adventurers caused the death of his people when they were nothing but hospitable to those adventurers (and well hyuman in general behaving in ways Makoto doesn't like, just like that hyuman woman who praised Makoto's shop staff but she still look down on them and wouldn't want to hire them for being demi-humans).

just wondering for any reader of the LN, did this even happened?? 'cause and I'm kinda not trying to criticize the chapter, but it felt filler-ish, like Ilumgand didn't change a single thing in the chapter and even worse he forgot he was getting away from the drugs addiction and that's pretty much the same point of what happened in the anime/WN, so we didn't progress on his side on the chapter and Makoto offing some nonames also doesn't move the plot.

Didn't even watch the anime, so no idea what you guys are talking about beyond the obvious, but yeah. Hindsight and omniscient reader's viewpoint is good and all, but you can't say anything beyond "shame it didn't turn out a better way". Ilumgand's face to face interactions so far were just him being an ass, so it's only fair that Makoto didn't really give him the time of day and interrupted his actions.

Right, but if Illum was able to remember what drugs did to that assassin before Makoto killed him, he would be more reluctant to take them. Makoto wiping his memory pretty much screwed him of any chance of saving himself.

Imho this event show a fatal flaw of Makoto's character, he is inattentive to things he think don't matter. In this case we can se how he address Illumgand and then how he flat out erased his memories instead of trying to talk before. And now he need to understand what consequences this kind of behaviour can have, and need this becouse his advisors, by blind adoration, stunt his growth (in a strategical pov mainly) . He didn't need to be kind, but he needed to ask and listen, becouse that could have been an fundamental information. One he now lost.
This is a secant issue on the one before, the negligence that allowed the adventurer mess in the demiplane. While he is more careful and attentive then before for the thing he hold near, he still lack it for the world at large, and he need it now that the "game" is stepping up with multiple powers being involved (and the overpresent looming of "the bug")

Damn, I was hoping for them to come to come to some kind of conclusion after he figured out 'Drugs are bad, m-kay'. Oh well, guess it'll be later, or he's actual toast later.

It's a great way of showing MC´s apathy when not punched in the face with a critical issue.
But honestly, Illumgand deserved better.
All things considerd he was a minor nuisance at best, and MC 100% had the chance to help him avoid what is to come.

he would probably have a fairly good chance of surviving if he had a chance to talk it out.
Either because he might stopped using the drugs or because MC would find out about his condition before it was too late.
At this point, MC would not be as butthurt and probably would have helped, unlike later on...

I believe it was mentioned that they suspected it might have been too late at that point.
But considering what happens later on i doubt it...
He could just not be asked to care.
