When you're the protagonist in an Urban Fantasy series you need a powerful ally to survive: an ancient vampire.
Almost a six centuries old vampire decided to move to Japan for unknown reasons, got attacked and became a shadow of its former self. Immortal herself, despair only grew so she was looking for a purpose and what she found was more than that... was it a fulfulling sense of usefulness? Or perhaps it was a new desire?
Any trace of gloominess gets wiped out once you promise her some treats of Mr. Donuts! She doesn't sell her help for cheap, only those things she ever sets interest on can appeal her to offer assistance, and after so many years there are really few things she can consider as such. As you may have guessed, the assistance she provides is battle oriented: she is a swordmaiden. As story advances, the readers/audience discovers all the mysteries behind this capricious being while she takes part in unusual battles against entities that don't belong to the realm of reality. Her other weapon is all the knowledge she has accumulated over her existence, by no means short. All this makes her a fearsome warrior to work with.
Monogatari Series started in 2006 with the publication of the light novel Bakemonotari and they keep going up to this day. It got multiple anime adaptations and there are yet in the making, the order of the story is altered and it's only bound to have its differences but it makes for a good long journey (all together, it is a long anime series). More recently, in 2018, a manga adaptation started to bring a closer adaptation to the novels and as well impress with ashtonishing visuals. The series got really lucky both with the illustrator and the studio who brought life to this shounen-like series, a reason to give it a try even if the premise doesn't sound that appealing at first.
With probably hundreds of different expressions and faces to offer, you won't be surprised why the community loves this character that much. There's a large cast of main characters as each book/season focuses on different characters and develops them to the point they don't need the protagonist to shine. It may be difficult to pick a favourite and a unique experience is assured. In the case of the animation, don't try to read all the floating text without pausing the reproduction, it's impossible.

A fairy from the west appears in Japan. She moves from one roof to another, until she finally stops to discover her face.
Hana is an USA student who moves to Japan and meets Naru Sekiya, the protagonist of this series. Her passions drive all her actions: she does parkour as if jumping from a wall to another would be her second nature, she is in love with anything Japanese, shyness is alien to her and dancing fill her with joy. What style, you may ask; its name is Yosakoi: a dancing style born in the mid of the XX century which is an evolved form of Japanese folk dances. It doesn't only imply festivals, this is an activity that involve groups of people that can be as large as a neighbourhood and they are full in creativity.
Yosakoi is the thread that links the five main characters of this story, all of them from the same middle school. All of them different as well, they will create their own music and choreography for all the acts they decide to participate in. Hana is the one who "pushes" Yosakoi on them, as it is one of her best memories of Japan when she was younger. Almost with non-depletable stamina, she's constantly putting her own for her dream and for her friends, and this energy makes everyone change.

This is another gem of the slice of life genre which leaves you with a grin everytime you read any of its chapters. It doesn't matter if it's your first time listening Yosakoi's characteristic rythm or your tenth, you'll be able to enjoy again the same series with a smile in your face all the time. Probably you've heard part of the opening before, either way this is my farewell gift for today, don't forget to laugh!

Frieren is a (baba)loli for many years, as she still looks like one when Flamme dies of old, but she is simply forever young (like a maid-café anime girl would say, "forever 17!"). Basically a teenager. The one who's a baba-loli is Serie who, no matter how old she gets, she still looks like one.

A heroine for those who have grown up but lack purpose in life, as they drift like a sailing boat pushed by the wind.
Nene is the best friend of Aoba Suzukaze, the protagonist of the series. Both of them graduate from school and take different paths: Aoba joins a game company as an artist, whereas Nene enters university. She enjoys campus life, keeps her otaku routine without any worries and attends lectures like a normal continuation of high school. She is quite self-centered, so her usual whims and attachment to Aoba guide her idle time to play around and being goofy with Aoba when they meet up.
At some point, when she can't hang out with Aoba that frequently, university starts feeling tedious and this idleness annoys her, she gets a chance to become involved with Aoba's company. This experience feels awarding for her, which pushes her to search for that something she's missing, something she can do instead of remaining as the shadow of Aoba. She also discovers she has no strong points nor skills that could make her as remarkable of Aoba. That's when she bumps up with something even her can do: learning programming. She's neither good or bad at it, but she's determined to study it (in addition to her university itinerary) and she will keep at it, through trial and error.
Started in 2013 and with a total of 13 volumes, New Game! is a story centered in a workplace where the protagonist will grow and meet a large cast of characters. Rare is the character in this story that ends being the same as it started, everyone effort and personality will shape the progress of this slice of life comedy. Published by none other than Manga Time Kirara, the 4-koma doesn't stop the series from becoming engaging or fresh at every chapter. Later, by 2016 we had the pleasure to have the first season of the anime adaptation, followed by an OVA and the second season in 2017. This time around, the adaptation wasn't conclusive but helped us discover this fantastic series that we could look forward to see continue every week.
You may be wondering, why this character but not the protagonist, who also fits the bill to be qualified as loli? The answer is simple: Nene makes you fall in love with her the longest the story goes, moving from being a bratty student to a full-developed character that stands in its own feet. For many years, Shoutarou Tokunou used her as her profile picture in social media whereas he has always used her mascot (a hedgedog) for any afterwords or interviews from the beginning. Nowadays he has Mimisuke on social media, the main character of Idol x Idol Story, another hit everybody should read and may also be able to watch in the future! Another two great lolis await in there. Surely, we will get it, right?
