Mangadex to purge titles for legal reasons

if MD does not block acces from Britain and moves its business registration to somewhere else, the website is going to shit no matter how much titles and chapters they delete

Considering how they've handled the issue thus far.... yeeeeeeaaaaah.... I wouldn't count on them doing anything at all.

What purpose does deleting your account serve?
Not like you even need an account to use the site, most users don't have accounts

You can just stop using the site
Or actually do keep using the site, not like they get any money from that anyway (if you are not using Tachiyomi or an adblock at this point you might be insane)

The purpose it serves is for legal compliance and data minimization. Some jurisdictions have rights like the UK and EU GDPR(Right to Erasure/Right to be Forgotten) and California CCPA (Right to Delete). If MangaDex has the full intention to go corporate like Crunchyroll. It is not a good idea since they have angered their current user base. They are open to being reported to a data protection officer, especially when they are registered in the United Kingdom, which could lead to heavy fines. They should prioritize on fixing the issue of giving their users the right to deleting their accounts.

I wasn't even going to comment about the whole situation, but that announcement post legitimately pissed me off. It gives no reason other than a vague "legal reasons" by an adamin who has fewer post on this site than some of the new users who only came here to shit on the original silent purge.

It legit boggles my mind how anyone can think any of this is a good idea, did everyone down a bottle of retard juice and OD on it or something? What's preventing the admins from citing a real reason behind the purge (beyond legal said so)? The site isn't hosted in a country where loli content is illegal nor was it a mass bulk purge (a lot of explicit loli content is still up). Bridges have already been burnt and people are pissed, so there's no point in hiding the real reason beyond just upsetting people who are already angry.

If its because of payment processors, the corporateization, or the ads, just fucking say so and stop vauge posting.

The GDPR noncompliance is kinda a weird thing to not do.
Like, account deletion is a quite basic feature of most websites, so I'm surprised they still haven't implemented that.
