I remember reading "A Series of Unfortunate Events" (I think?) as a middle schooler. In high school, I basically "read" Animal Farm for an exam (Somehow got a C+ on) and read this one assigned book about the holocaust, shit made me tear up when I was reading it after a midterm lol. Now, the only book I've fully read as an adult is "The Stranger" ONLY because of Limbus Company and Meursault's portrayal in itI'm grateful my parents pointed me towards books I ended up enjoying as a kid; in high school I enjoyed a grand total of one (1) book we read in all four years of literature classes. I am very not surprised that so many kids end up hating reading.

I feel like every adult thought Catcher in the Rye would appeal to teenagers and instead was universally hated. My annotations for that book were just "this kid is fucking annoying" on repeat.but holy hell I hate "Catcher in the Rye" with a burning passion.
I think I got one of my best book report grades just breaking down how much I hate every little thing about that book.
He's supposed to be annoying and an unreliable narrator, but also sympathetic because he's become disillusioned with becoming an adult. The issue was there's nothing to sympathize with him because he didn't come across as ever caring about anything. Even his relationship with his sister seems hollow and fake.I feel like every adult thought Catcher in the Rye would appeal to teenagers and instead was universally hated.
