I'd maybe need to re-read chapter one - but it was basically like Shouya being her childhood crush, that she carried beyond into years when she didn't see him.I do find it hard for the fmc to be romantically interested to the mc. They look like friends with an age gap vibe, more platonic than romantic, which is fun!
She is the one who's into him, but it reads like how a younger quasi-sibling tells their older quasi-sibling "I wanna marry you when I grow up" (which, incidentally, she did, even).
The reason we get the dynamic we do between them now is because Shouya changed a lot in the intervening years that separated them, and Reality smashed her in the face when she saw her mental image of him shattered.
So now it's a rebuilding.
