The most exciting time is finally here!
Srajo not quite being an ally not quite being a terrifying enemy yet is really exciting. Wouldn't have it any other way from this series.

More pieces of the jigsaw puzzle reveal themselves... Yet, their (apparent) lack of connection suggests that the lore is more complex than predicted.

Nevertheless, now I am more convinced than ever that the Lord of Mystery will eventually turn on our protagonists. Even if it is just to protect her secret identity.
Protect it from whom? They are past the point of no return. On their last dive. Pretty sure that's a huge reason why the group hasn't been "dealt with" yet.

Oh man AND IT ENDS LLIKE THAT!? WHEN I HAVE TO WAIT 89 MONTHS FOR THE NEXT TEASE? FUUUUUCK…
He needs to get one volume out per year and he already lamented that he started later than he wanted. We'll get more soon(ish). Probably in ~2-3 months.

Immediately made me think back to chapter 67 and Srajo's exposition about the souls of the abyss. Knowing that much about them and being able to see them, it leads to the thought she would know of a way to destroy them. And while being cordial, she does seem practical at her core of having no qualms about killing for her group. Though the method of erasing the soul brings up two possible explainations. I could see how erasing someone in such a manner could be considered 'kind', saving anyone from grieving as they would not even remember to do so. In this way, the whistles collected and the names written would serve as the only memorial for the fallen. Or she has possibly been depriving the abyss itself of information, as the souls have been described as holding a wealth of it by merging with the humans before returning in death. She has been removing these souls from the cycle.

I think you give them too much credit. You could also argue that the harshness of the abyss makes cooperation more logical.

It might just be a skill issue, honestly. Our protagonists haven't been mugging everyone they come across and they're doing great.
I mean, they kinda almost died... multiple times. You could even go ahead and say the stars aligned for them to keep progressing so far. Also, although they didn't mug but they did however apply the wise policy of "finders keepers" to the belongings of fallen delvers (on more than one occasion).

It is logical thinking about survival but that also only ever happens when there is a lot of trust (Riko's group), a very clear hierarchy (Ozen and her whistles) or when you are Bowdred and just keep making lots of yous.

Yeah but to be fair destroying their existence might go a bit too far.
True. We gotta wait and see the explanation of how they manage to do that. Maybe as other speculated it's the little guy's power (they manipulate time after all). Or it's something like a weak spot where you pierce the soul and it all vanishes from within. There is also a possibility of a robot/artifact like Reg since his weapon erases anything physical, there might be one that erases anything spiritual/abstract.

So is it a list of names of the people killed, or a list of names of the people that need to be killed?
