In the web novel I read it was his cousin. But she really wants a brother and basically adopts the MC as her brother. Nothing sexual ended up happening with her despite the author teasing it potentially going that route.

When the manga adaptation comes out later then it has two options either stick to the version presented in the light novels and follow same general audience, or go its own way. I'm not sure which direction the manga author will take, but if it stays at least somewhat true to the light novel version, then...

the story progression hasn't felt natural for a while though, the Ex-GF was dropped and picked up a couple of times and it added nothing, is like the author is throwing us distractions while trying to come up with...I don't know what anymore, he is making things more complicated than they should be, I can't really imagine what is the point of the mother being sick, what is that going to add, or setup, how will it affect the story?

I still like the characters, the story, the art, but I think the author is currently lost.
