They're a HELL of a lot better than the friends in the Hajimete no Gal anime. I haven't yet read the source (and many say not to bother).

The romance...is in the goddamn fucking extras of the volume....I wish I knew japanese and japan's culture well enough to basically say "why the fuck is the romance in a romcom, its most important part, relegated to the extra?"........but you know, without sounding rude.
