Look, I get the idea of wanting to follow your own personal muse and aesthetics and ideas, and to hell with popularity. But then if you do that, you have to understand that you're in a totally different game and not nurse grudges and resentments about authors who are popular, because you ain't gonna be that. really loving this flashback arc and the characterization of these authors in their youth. seeing it all in the context of knowing how they are in their elder years, with some traits mellowed out and some traits still smoldering, is really profound. the literary lifestyle is truly a blessing and a curse.
