"hey friends.

this project is a redo of my project to scanlate this work that I embarked on last year, when this was literally my first ever scan. since then I've taken down everything I scanned, but I'll probably put "a story concerning sweets" back up sometime. the tl and typesetting has hopefully been tremendously improved, but I still love this Gloria Hallelujah font and won't let the naysayers take it from me. thank you, almond and stan miller, for assisting me with the tl.
note on "minazuki:" on first glance it appears to mean "month without water" but actually means "month of water" on account of how the rice fields were to be irrigated in June (and also since the character for "not/without" refers how this month requires more water than the others. it was originally spelled without that character, and the kana version just meant "of.") apparently the Meiji Calendar's realignment of the dates from lunar to solar calendar made the epithet unpopular, though. I could totally be wrong about this. minazuki is also the name of a few imperial-era battleships.
I switched to affinity for this. hopefully it looks good.
the song at the beginning and throughout this manga is “木の葉のお舟,” or “Konoha no Ofune.” It’s a children’s song written by Shinpei Nakayama (1887-1952) and can be found on Youtube, among other places.
the students in this work are obviously heavily based on the himeyuri students, and the story itself might have some substantial influence from Machiko Kyo's "cocoon," which is more historical. that work is coming out via Viz in August and was translated several years ago. also I have qualms about the history in this one but I'll save it for the next chapter where I will free myself to yap even more.
I welcome criticism on everything.
for this work I redid the tl based more on “formal equivalence” (haha, though it’s still too horseshit to warrant that phrasing) than the looser dynamic idea I adopted previously.

I was meaning to ask about this actually I know about/can find Cocoon but what's the "himeyuri" the characters are based on?

Other than that I think it's safe to say that our protagonist is possibly hallucinating? The idea of her tongue going numb after kissing the "minazuki's" cheek doesn't seem normal if it's just a woman being very weird.

"himeyuri students" refers to a real life nursing unit from WW2 by students and teacher of the First Okinawa Girls' High School and Okinawa Women's Normal School

fuck yeah. finally after years
