In most series I would give you that. But there is one aspect here that actually really makes it work.
The reason for hating demons has nothing to do with their personality, its do to their existence causing problems. That simply by existing they cause monsters to spawn, poison the air around them. The hate and fear has a solid basis that makes it irrelevant if the demons are nice. And thats the thing, yes they know she was nice, but now they have to worry that by being near her they will suffer health effects. That she was poisoning them all while being friendly. To them she was a knowingly betraying and harming them all while acting like a friend.

Its really a great plot point because without addressing the energy, demons and humans can not safely live together. And its really not as simple as the demons trying to be friendly. There is a deep rooted fear, of a very real threat. Though it does seem that people do not know how dangerous that threat is or isn't, in large part do to it being a unseen threat.

Happens so much. When prejudice is so deeply rooted it can be hard to overcome. Even though they all have positive experiences with Rhys and the kids that deep seated hated and fear is no joke.

I'm wondering who is behind also if this though and we're they paid to do it or is it really just a merchant trying to make a buck
