I do quite like to see if there is gonna be a new guy who's a decent man. This manga has kinda been lacking in a different male character. Would be great to contrast Shinba and Hizumi. Maybe the decent man would even just be a better Shinba. A Shinba who is just better and has no baggage.
But maybe Hizumi would still pick Shinba not because she wants the chrysalis but because she's determined to now see the chrysalis mature into a butterfly and stay with that imperfect butterfly and not the already grown and perfect butterfly.

It could be. The dad is the same loser as Shinba is. Probably much worse than Shinba. But, the moment dad finally became butterfly, breaking up his own chrysalis, that's also the moment where it takes his own life. Maybe to protect mom, or even Hizumi in the past?
And the bad doll that her mom has, probably also a gift from dad. Similar to Hizumi's dull scarf and toy ring from Shinba. And last, two symbolize things (Hizumi's doll inside the bag and small plant inside a cage) can be interpreted as how she, as the owner of chrysalises, does not want both of them turn into butterfly.

Out of all the possible usual suspects, that her father might have been the loser she loved and traumatized her, was certainly not on my bingo card.

people say hizumi's mom has a "normal" perspective, but her dialogue about how "shinba's words is similar to when she got proposed" makes me think she is projecting her own grievances unto her own daughter
so she doesn't experience heartbreak, but projecting noneless

not to mention, she dressing like a lolitha gothica isn't really normal. it puts her into the eccentric rich territory

So Izami's projecting what happened to her loser of a husband into Shinba and that's why she doesn't want her to marry Shinba.

Realistically speaking, Shinba would have zero chances to score someone like Hizumi.

Anyway, Iwaba should just move his ass off and reveal why Hizumi's so fucking dead inside. Either from Orochi's mouth or from a new character (AKA gigachad winner side character who cut ties with Hizumi).

Ch 28.2 is already out in RAW, author warned the story was gonna take a darker turn from this point and that it was planned since the beginning this turning point. It's a flashback chapter at last Hizumi's family backstory

Do you remember the guy with the apron next to Shinba during the "Goodbye Hizumi" panel? It was actually Hizumi's daddy. And as expected... he was a loser, and the 3 of them loved to go to the cinema, but one day, Izami left him as she went to the states when Hizumi was still a grade schooler who was left with her dad. Chapter ends with Hizumi and her mom talking about Hizumi's 1st day at middleschool through videocall, she's busy trying to acheive her dream and demands Hizumi to get along with her dad, he reveals her he wants to become a novelist (where did i hear that story??) so he could support mom's dream. Hizumi offers herself to help with the houseworking so one day the 3 of them could see the movie based on dad's novel and make the pinky promise, but at the end of the chapter, the dreadful butterfly of freedom flies next to Hizumi's family house. Final panel has hizumi saying she ended up going to see that movie alone, meaning dad abandoned her, reasons still unknown.

Now we have to see who's the guy next to Shinba who abandoned her too.

Iwaba posted on his X that, for 3 consecutive chapters since this one, the story will be about Hizumi's past and the tone will get darker. He also said he already had this part of the story planned in advance and that was the reason the christmas chapters were more brighter than the usual.
