I really like how the usage of "we" after the pretense is dropped, and the fact that it's a swarm, explains how and why Hiraizumi knew about Mr N not scolding Takahashi, and how and why Mr N quickly found out about Hiraizumi dying.
Also, my guess is that The bucket of water, or some sort of liquid, is going to be used to weigh down the swarm, or to break its form apart.

I didn't either until I saw the raws. Although I think there is something missing with this translation that did felt like a "oh duh" . When they were talking about Mister N pretending to be a monster I don't think they were talking about them pretending to be a monster period.

A swarm of intelligent give insects that acts in this a monster. What they were calling him out on was pretending to be another or similar to a pre-existing monster, a well known one from internet culture of all things.

Which at the time I did think was weird as fuck but I didn't give the manga enough credit. It is supposed to be put of place on purpose. Of the monsters we see non of them are just like a diet version or even resemble other monsters, either classical least of fucking creepy pasta.

The fact that is there is just a monster who is just like slanderman and claims to be like him is a clue that said monster is lying through his teeth.

Stuff like the chameleons are also a misdirect. If you walk into the room and see all those chameleons you would start thinking that he is related to that or they have something to do with his nature.

But like the MC said that doesn't really fit.

It's all these things that don't make sense. Because Mister N is just a fucking liar. So you can't count of on anything he says or plans to be clues, they are just misdirections.

Ahh, that's a good point I hadn't thought of. Looking at it now, I agree that's probably what Takahashi meant by 他の化け物の名前; I had indeed missed that connection when translating. Oops! I'll think it over and probably post an updated translation later, thanks!

I know that water does weird shit when you're talking about physics at the level of individual insects. It can act more like glue than anything else, as they don't drown in it, per se, but the surface tension of water molecules against a single bug's minuscule size means that a whole bucket splashed on an amalgamation of them might just neutralize the whole of Mr. N by locking them all in place and rendering them immobile/largely unable to do anything.

I dunno if that's where it's going, but we already got some on-theme biology facts this very chapter, so. I'll be very excited if I'm correct, and at seeing Itou's genius coming into play like this.
