Man it must've been hell doing the pages of the past scenes when she explains what happened, given all the grit on them.
Is it really?
It seems to be just cutouts from previous chapters (from a different translator, and still exactly the same), arranged, and only applied grit in the end.
Sure, it's much harder than just putting text into the speech bubble, but it's still just an easy work for 5 minutes or so.

That brings up something that was bugging me. How did a nobody middle duchy like Ehrenfest manage to maintain neutrality through the bloody civil war when this much smaller scale succession dispute is forcing them to take a side?

They weren't a nobody middle duchy.
They were a nobody bottom duchy that did not get involve and got bumped up because everyone else get chopped down that much.

In this case, Rozemyne's actions have gotten them too deeply involved with the current succession issue that they don't have a 'stay out' option anymore.

simple. by saying and doing absolutely nothing when both sides send request for aids/ask for alliances until the whole thing blow over. and when the winner emerged, shower them with praises and tributes and prayers and hopefully they would be too weak or too exhausted to do anything afterwards.

Really?
How about you just continue the rest of the chapter, it's easy, right?
It's only 5 minutes or so ☺️

Don't take me wrong, you are doing a god's work! If that sounded offensive - i apologize.

I just had a hand scanlation in the past, and know a thing or two. Replicating screentones in manga is indeed hell, but when it was possible to just grab the original pieces and cover it with your own screentone, instead of meticulously drawing it in photoshop, my thoughts were instantly "Oh, hey, it's super easy, if i do this instead. Why didn't it occur to me earlier?!"

After having some cleaning jobs that i really can describe as "hell", i just got kinda triggered that making a tile compilation with screentone over it was called as such.

tl;dr - i thought that other dude was talking about redacting the text behind the screentone, which indeed would be hell. So i just said that it was done in much easier way, instead of slaving away in maintaining old screentones.

This is purely conjecture. I assume Ehrenfest refused support to both sides of the civil war, namely those of Frenbeltag and Ahrensbach, which they have family ties to. I think that came at a great cause politically considering they were both upper duchies before the civil war.
