Just like Kawaguchi's latest, meh. Well, at least they're confessing their love for each other. That's something.

A mix of Horikoshi's style with a vale of horror. The idea of living by old customs to the point of glorifying the death of another for some unknown being is scary enough but when its real; that is the secret sauce. I really didn't know what to expect coming in and the happy ending really didn't take anything away from the lead up. Personally, I think this is staying a one-shot and that fine. I just don't see how a full series could do both characters justice.

Horikoshi comes back with a oneshot that is not at all subtle in aiming for serialization. I'm all for it.

I like the concept of an entire city being in on a human sacrifice, and everyone else just going with the flow.

I guess my concern is, how would this even be reworked into a serialization? What does Shijima's role become, for example, after she stops being a sacrifice? I sure hope she does not just stay a love interest that does nothing. Also, Shijima and Azumi are already a couple, so how on earth will their relationship develop? Is this going to lean all into action, or will it remain a mix of horror mystery (when learning about a new ritual) and action (when fighting the ritual)? How are people going to be worked into the plot when most of them cannot see the supernatural?

Lastly, Azumi just becomes Dark Deku at the end lol. I'm down for a story where he goes from place to place throughout Japan to hunt the supernatural and dismantle rituals; I would especially love an emphasis on the investigation, like it was in this one-shot, where he can only slowly piece together the truth. Though, I suppose a downside of that approach is that repeated enough times, the horror element fades completely as monsters become just another thing for him to beat up.

Azumi is basically Denki if he had Denji's recklessness and Momo's paranormal powers, I like it.
I know Hori must've hated working for WSJ, but I wouldn't mind if this gets a short serialization as a monthly release

I think it has potential. Shijima having enough money to be set for life is an easy setup for her to be the brains while Azumi is the brawn as they go around stopping these ritual sacrifices to various evil entities.
The tricky thing would be avoiding repetitive and formulaic arcs.
The exposition at the end even hinted at others reawakening humanity's third eye so you have potential allies as well as nemesis' to throw into the mix.

He’d have to rename it, but I can see a series with the dude being a supernatural hunter. Maybe they can get him a cool car and a brother too…
