It was kind of pointless too. It was no different from any random cutesy mascot monster getting shanked in a game then just disappearing because the HP hit 0. Where was the skinning? The blood draining? Literally any of the gory parts of meat preparation? I was promised detailed depictions.

I doubt the ability of a girl her age to instantly kill an animal when all she has is a knife. The staff could be used to do it, but Lulu probably can't swing it, and Kunya already proved she couldn't bring herself to kill it. Also even if they used the staff and just had it fall on the animal, the animal might still jump out of the way, and it might turn the animal into a smear on the ground ruining the meat. Stabbing it like that might well have been the best method available to her.

That looks much like a rabbit, right? So treat it like rabbit, attach two parallel stiff sticks with a narrow gap between them to something at breast-height, put its neck into that gap, twist, and voilà, a quick and bloodless death (though still do drain the blood afterwards)...
