Knowing that some content gets cut or is revealed later in stories like these, i’m going to in good faith assume the dad did try to educate his son initially then failed and is not a total failure of a father who just abandoned his son the second he started acting like a brat

I noticed some of the dialogue in this chapter feels a bit off in English, especially the emotional parts between the parents and the child.

Manga translation is actually pretty tricky here — it's not just about literal meaning, but tone and layout inside speech bubbles.

I've been experimenting with an AI-based manga translator that tries to preserve layout + context better. Still not perfect, but interesting to see how far it can go.

If you're curious, I’ve been building one: mangatranslator.me

Layout preservation is definitely the hard part. When I compare the raw page against a translated version, I usually merge the two screenshots side by side with ai image combiner so I can check bubble alignment and text overflow at a glance. Makes it easier to catch subtle issues like the ones you mentioned.

It's nice that he's trying to repair his relationship with his parents, but his dad fucking sucks. He completely abdicated responsibility for raising his son.

Having fun here, asked GPT to do silly things. Read at your own risk, but it is fun lol.

Nobles – Maxim, His Wife, and Herbert

Maxim's Wife: My love, why dost thou bear such a visage of wrath?
Maxim's Wife: Lo, hath it not been long since father and son last met?
Maxim's Wife: What dost trouble thee so?

Herbert: Of that… I must atone.
Herbert: Verily, I hath lived in idle mirth—wandering by moon’s glow, slumbering whilst the sun doth rise.
Herbert: Yet no longer shall I remain in folly.
Herbert: I shall bind mine own self to discipline henceforth.

Maxim: So.
Maxim: The wayward knave…
Maxim: Hath words to utter at last?
Maxim: Know this, wretched boy—whilst thou didst squander thy days, I, thy sire, toiled beneath the burden of ducal rule.
Maxim: I possess not time nor patience for thy trifling tongue.

Maxim’s Wife: Maxim!
Maxim’s Wife: How canst thou spurn thine own blood so?

Maxim (Narration): My wife…

Maxim’s Wife: Pray, Herbert, tell me!
Maxim’s Wife: What deeds hast thou wrought of late?

Maxim (Narration): She abandoneth not her love for our firstborn.
Maxim (Narration): No matter mine efforts, she did insist upon this meeting.
Maxim (Narration): Since their parting, she hath found slumber unchained from the grip of draught and tincture. But now…!

Maxim’s Wife: Speak, my son! How fares thy study? Hast thou kept thy health? Thou dost tell me naught!

Maxim: …Aye. I am reminded.
Maxim: Word reach’th mine ear that thou hast acquired a craft most rare. Rodeo did entreat me to witness it.

Herbert: …Rodeo…
Herbert: So that was thy design…

Maxim: Show me thy sorcery. Then begone to thy chamber.

Maxim (Narration): Let us end this swiftly.
Maxim (Narration): Let it be mine own burden alone to bear.

Herbert (chanting): …Accelerate.

Maxim & Maxim’s Wife: What sorcery be this…?

Herbert: Behold, a rudiment of the space-time arcane.
Herbert: "Accelerate." Father.

Maxim (Narration): Space-time magicks… what madness is this?

Herbert: As of now, its reach extendeth but within mine own etheric field.
Herbert: Within its bounds alone may I thus move.

Maxim (Narration): A mere parlor trick? A jest weaved from lesser magicks?
Maxim (Narration): Nay… no art known to me could conjure such motion…
Maxim (Narration): Could it be…? The whispered legend of the sages made flesh…?

Herbert: I too may weave its antithesis—"Delay."
Herbert: With but a little more mastery, this shall be but the beginning…

Maxim (Narration): Rodeo… my most trusted and loyal vassal…
Maxim (Narration): At last, I grasp the cause of thine insistence.

Maxim’s Wife (as Maxim falls to his knees): My love!

Maxim (Narration): This gathering…
Maxim (Narration): This child, my son, with such power…
Maxim (Narration): He is a danger most dire.

Even more fun!

Commoners – Rodeo & Tina

Rodeo: I am sore afeared…
Rodeo: By my troth, shall all be well?
Rodeo: The Duke… he would meet his eldest son.

Tina: I trow it be for the best, father.
Tina: That knave hath need of a scolding from the Duke. He hath deserved it full well.

Rodeo: B-But… our young lord hath changed. Tina… thou wert not ever thus toward him…

Tina: I have spoken! Speak no more of it!
Tina: Thou art but a fool…

Rodeo: Tsk… I do beseech thee, forgive me, Tina…

Tina: Fool, fool, fool!

Rodeo (Narration): Young Master… I do wish thee God’s speed…

Nobles – Maxim, His Wife, and Herbert

Maxim's Wife: Mine own lord, why dost thou bear such a visage of wrath?
Maxim's Wife: Lo, is it not many days since father and son last did meet?
Maxim's Wife: What doth thee trouble?

Herbert: Of that… I must atone.
Herbert: Verily, I have livèd in great folly—wand’ring ‘neath the moon, slumb’ring till the sun stood high.
Herbert: Yet no more shall I linger in mine idleness.
Herbert: I shall take hold of mine own self.

Maxim: So.
Maxim: The wayward knave…
Maxim: At last doth he open his tongue?
Maxim: Know this, foolish boy—whilom thou didst dally, I, thy sire, toiled beneath the weight of noble duty.
Maxim: I have nor time nor patience for thy trifling words.

Maxim’s Wife: Maxim!
Maxim’s Wife: How mayst thou speak thus to thine own son?

Maxim (Narration): Mine own lady…

Maxim’s Wife: Prithee, Herbert! Speak to me!
Maxim’s Wife: What hast thou done of late?

Maxim (Narration): She forsaketh not her love for our firstborn.
Maxim (Narration): No matter how I did gainsay it, she did press to be here this night.
Maxim (Narration): Since they were sunder’d, she hath found sleep without physic. But now…!

Maxim’s Wife: Speak, my son! How fareth thy learning? Art thou in good health? Thou hast told me naught!

Maxim: …Aye. I am remindèd.
Maxim: I have heard it spoken that thou hast learn’d some rare craft. Rodeo did bid me to see it.

Herbert: …Rodeo…
Herbert: So that was thy purpose…

Maxim: Show me thy sorcery. Then get thee gone to thy chamber.

Maxim (Narration): Let us make an end of this, and swiftly.
Maxim (Narration): Let it be mine own burden alone.

Herbert (chanting): …Hasten.

Maxim & Maxim’s Wife: What devilry be this…?

Herbert: This be the most base of space-time charms.
Herbert: "Hasten." Father.

Maxim (Narration): Space-time sorcery… what madness be this?

Herbert: As yet, its reach doth extend but unto mine own etheric field.
Herbert: Within its bounds alone may I thus move.

Maxim (Narration): A mere trick? A conjuration of common sorcery?
Maxim (Narration): Nay… no art known to me might bring such swiftness to a man…
Maxim (Narration): Could it be… the lost art of the Sages…?

Herbert: I too may weave its twin—"Hinder."
Herbert: With but a little more mastery, this shall be but the first of many…

Maxim (Narration): Rodeo… mine own most trusted vassal…
Maxim (Narration): Now do I ken why thou didst urge this meeting.

Maxim’s Wife (as Maxim falls to his knees): My lord!

Maxim (Narration): This meeting…
Maxim (Narration): This child, my son, with such power…
Maxim (Narration): He is a danger most fell.
