Out of curiosity, I dropped by the author's page, and turns out this is based on their novel, which has 2 volumes out, with a 3rd in the making.

I couldn't find a translated version of it though, so there's no way of reading ahead for me. I hope this settles on a biweekly schedule, cuz I'm really looking forward to the reveals.

To be fair it does say "dies at the end"
Can't really do the whole punch line at the start when it's meant to be at the end

The guy being into puppetry and the girl supposedly being out of hospital and maybe dying have reminded me of Air. It also seems to be divided into arcs so perhaps there will be time travel or alternate timelines. That would be a very mid 2000s manga vibe and would put it above most of the shallow modern slop we get for manga these days.
