It’s actually kinda refreshing that this chapter features a fight between two sides with relatively similar levels of technology, instead of the modern Jap war machine curbstomping everything
But where is the fun in that?

Entire reason why this story and GATE work so well is becasue it is putting Empires of the past\Roman Empire\fantasy setting against modern Japan\JSDF and the technology actually works as intended despite magic existing as a concept.

I do not read this manga to see fictional armies who are on pair with each other have naval engagement - I read it becasue I see Napoleonic era army use intimidating giant turtles who then get absolutely obliterated by a shot from Type 10 MBT, and then get all "hell yeah" while waiting eagerly to see what will they think off next.

I mean, we're still pretty close to that. In this case we're watching WWII era weaponry mostly curbstomp magic technology. The only problem is we've had modern era technology the whole time so jumping back to WWII is a bit dissatisfying. Not to mention it sets up absolutely no tension for the inevitable modern era curbstomping WWII.

What would make it more interesting is if Gra Valkas pulls out a fusion of WWII and magic to face off against modern. And I mean a fusion that is synergistic (i.e. fast battleships that have rapid fire main guns), not the subpar copies that is Milishial.

This usd to be a series about the entirety of Japan getting isekai'd. Why happened there?
iirc someone alrady said before, the world the story takes place is actually like convergence of several isekai'd world. there will be several otherworld coutnry that get isekai'd like Japan. the difference is their starting place/spawn location is on the opposite side of the world where the superpower are, while Japan spawned next to the weakest continent.

tldr; just thik of it like a game strategy world ala Civ, lol.

Save to assume the masked guys haven't actually had to fight a war in a while.
its clear they are a pacifist state with the techonological advantage to back it up.... until all the other-world country with more advanced weaponry spawned, that is.

It will be interesting to watch how Modern era military (Japan with somewhat limited resources to their military) fares against WWII era major power (Gras Valkas has nuclear capability)

I'm actually interested in this. I'm way less interested in WWII VS Modern military fight than WWII VS Modern Magic military fight, but it's still seems that it's going to be interesting.

We do still ignore the facts of oil shortages or energy shortages, but I guess I'll just forget about it.

I would love to see Valkas pulling out some ideas like fusing magic and their technology, since we saw that they did invent proximity fuzes already, probably either as a countermeasure to planes in their previous world or just right after landing here to combat wyverns.

But I think the most likely nation to fuze magic and modern technology is actually Japan, because we got for instance that unbreakable shield story before and now they are friends with all the 3rd world countries that massively use magic beasts for warfare.

Right now I'm really waiting to see how the torpedos will do and how will this combat end, but I also REALLY want to see the steampunky Mu VS WWII military of Valkas. We didn't really see how either of their ground forces or doctrines look like, so my interested is in fact piqued.

Pacifist? I don't think they've ever been identified as such. They're just used to being an unmatched Superpower, with mechanical Mu being the closest thing to a rival.

Remember this is a bigger planet with grossly differing levels of advancement. Parpaldia was considered a Superpower until they fell.

Guess they invest on the look instead of tactical :pepela:

Oh man interesting fight instead of the usual roflmao stomping.
This is what happens when you dig up your technology, and don't actually develop it yourself. They don't actually understand the physics they are dealing with.

The first neighboring country Japan liberated (heh) is basically a super-resource country filled with wheat and oil. Otherwise, ye, isekai resource limitation is kinda handwaved away.

Countries, btw. Qua-Toyne and Quila are two different independent kingdoms, the former being rich in food resources and the latter rich in mineral and oil

I'm kinda bummed that the artist choose to make a chimera of a warship, I've always thought on this fight the Gra Valkas used a Nagato that can go 30+ kts, not a HMS King George V gun layout and superstructure, and the hull is a mix of HMS KGV bow with RM Littorio aft, with RM Littorio's AA gun mounts. I hate it lol.

They don't know what torpedoes are, and aren't searching for them? So even though they have radar, they probably don't have sonar or subs?
