They are showing off the tech of the new enemy against a near peer nation.
Near peer is being super generous. There is no way Gra Valkas can utilize their WWII tech to do anything effective against an army of supersonic fighters and cruise missiles. The battleships may as well be sitting ducks for target practice.
They don't know what torpedoes are, and aren't searching for them? So even though they have radar, they probably don't have sonar or subs?
I don't think it's true radar either. Their radar are dependent on magical signatures, which both Gra Valkas and Japan basically don't have anything of.

Here you can really see the biggest advantage being in actual war brings - innovation.

Gra Valkas being superpower and probably waging a ton of wars in their homeworld led to them having developed strategies like having torpedos and land mines. Poor Milishial might have magic advantage but compared to battle tested things it cannot hold candle to Gra Valkas.

But of boy... are they going to be surprised when they go agaisnt modern Japanese airforce and navy.
Cannons, if I remember it right, can only shoot as far as 20km or more... Then comes Anti-ship missiles. That would be suck. I heard CIWS can shoot shells too nowadays.

By the time the Gra Valkans learned Japan's true military strength, it's too late. They're now desperate to sue peace in order to mount a desperate defensive position

When I said near peer I'm talking about Gra Valkas vs Milishial that is happening here in this chapter.

Pacifist? I don't think they've ever been identified as such. They're just used to being an unmatched Superpower, with mechanical Mu being the closest thing to a rival.

Remember this is a bigger planet with grossly differing levels of advancement. Parpaldia was considered a Superpower until they fell.

I'd say it's less pacifist and more that it's akin to a hegemonic/almost hegemonic country that spent decades without getting in a near-peer conflict and thus their doctrines never got to evolve and thus starts to really rust despite technological advantages (see Russia during the start of the Ukrainian Invasion).

I wonder when was the last time the Milishial have real major war, and not some small skirmishes with lesser kingdoms?
Bet those battleships were designed & built centuries after their last major war, and based on theories against the next super powers.
