This is the first chapter without the actual volume released yet! Because of that I do not have most of the fun character pages. Also - the next chapter won't be released until October 21 in Japan so at this point in time we have now truly, honestly, for real real, caught up to current.

My intention is to release chapters on or around the first Friday of every month (giving me about 2 weeks to do a translation). So see you in November!

In this chapter we meet Touma. Who on earth is this kid? Lots of guessing on the Japanese forums are that he's actually the "evil hero" from the opening of the OG series... I'm not sure that's going to be who he is... but I'm sure we'll find out!

Also holy shit avan is hot (that color image!).

And it's nice to catch up with Chocoma again and see how she's doing how she's doing and what she's up to. That portal she's building makes me excited for what might be coming in the future - questing to the underworld to save Dai should we get a proper sequel!

That stuff with Chocoma is beyond devilish.
Extremely delicious sequel-new series-bait that the chances of coming to fruition are infinitesimally small. First the Baran tease and now this. I want to die.

I can't believe we're finally caught up. Thank you so much for your work on this so far. They truly don't make 'em like this anymore.

Chiu truly couldn't be more different at the end of the OG series huh. Cool seeing em. Also Chocoma explanation.

A device that let you go to unknown worlds hmmmm. I wonder if it possible that can lead to a dai sequel....nah im just stupid.
I think it's more and more likely... it feels like Sanjo-san is setting up for it...

We did NOT see Avan in the cave of trials (so we should expect to see him there while "dead" during the OG series, meaning it's safe to assume this series "ends" at the end of Dai).

We now have access to the plane of the celestials and the underworld when we know that "going to the underworld to save Dai" was the intended plot of the OG sequel had they gotten there.

Thank you, as usual.

Too much potential to go everywhere with this series: Baran sidestory, Avan in the cave... I'm not sure I want the ending of the original Dai to change however. I think it's fine the way it was, a cliché ending but I liked it.

This has definitely been a huge enough success(if I remember right we’re already past the intended ending) that the duo could totally get greenlit to do the long awaited sequel, that’s for sure
So it's possible that Avan actually had even more disciples?

I guess it's worth it not getting more out of Baran for these new stuff.
He probably did, but it’s likely there’s more than a few that didn’t graduate and get the emblem(and some who just weren’t in the position to contribute like Chocoma. It’s possible there’s some specialists)

That's correct. The intended ending was supposed to be shortly after Hadlar was defeated. What felt like an epilogue at that point in time would have been the ending.

Instead of introducing the furries (Beruks), we probably would have gotten a little bit of time with Hyunckel and then maybe some very condensed montage leading up to the beginning of the series.

The series continues to rate well with its volume releases. It's not breaking any records or anything but it's staying solidly in the top 20 or so every time a book is released. It's got a very dedicated fan base being that it's dragon quest and that Dai was so beloved.

I have more hope now than I did a few years ago that it will eventually turn into a sequel series.

Hopefully they don’t make us wait much longer for an anime either

I'm torn - an anime needs to have the source material finished or close to finished so that there aren't long gaps in production (and if the intention is to follow avan behind the scenes through the OG dai's events, we're not close to the end yet at all). I don't think this series is popular enough to get renewed for additional seasons if a full series greenlight isn't made from the start.

But if we get an anime of just the prequel to it's end that would be really nice.

I definitely wouldn't want to wait for an entire sequel series (potentiall hundreds of chapters long) to be finished before they start a prequel anime!
