the katakana clearly indicated "Bloody Finesse."
I'm not sure that's correct either. The word used for the technique in the manga is ファインズ ('z' sound at the end, while the actual loanword finesse is フィネス . The translators for the Legend of Maian used "Bloody Fines", which is the same as the loanword 'fine', except for the ズ at the end.

Then again, the main usage of this spelling in Japanese is "Fiennes", as in Ralph Fiennes, the guy who played Voldemort. :worry:

Fair point about the katakana. I still think "Finesse" makes more sense in the context of a sword technique, although I can see the argument for "Fines," especially if that's how it was translated in Legend of Maian. Either way, I'm still not sure where "Bloody Vines" came from.

There's nothing inherently wrong with asking for donations. But when someone consistently solicits financial support for their work, it is not unreasonable to expect some basic quality control. That doesn't mean readers are entitled to professional-grade translations, but asking for donations doesn't make someone's work immune to criticism either.
I see now where our point of view are different. For me, when someone provide work for free, it's reasonable to announce that they accept donation. The quality is something that I would only find in the right of complaining if I were donating money.

As for adjusting my donation, how exactly would that address any of these problems? My criticism isn't about the cost. It's about the quality of the translations and the apparent lack of proofreading.
You could donate less or more depending of the quality of the work and give feedback during donation.

I do make a few proofread passes. I dont simply make a direct translation, I rephrase it a bit as much as I can to cater to English readers.

If there are errors in my translation that seems off, then please feel free to point them out. I'll revise them if necessary just like I always do in the past.

I don't understand why you believe someone needs to donate money before they have the right to criticize publicly available work. Donations are voluntary contributions, not a prerequisite for providing feedback. And donating more or less doesn't address the underlying quality issues. I've already provided specific examples of the problems, which are what my criticism has been about from the beginning.

Thanks for responding. I appreciate the time and effort you put into translating this series, as well as your willingness to correct mistakes.

My concern is that these errors have been occurring for quite some time, and while many are relatively minor, others have been significant enough to affect the understanding of the dialogue.

If you're already making several proofreading passes, perhaps having someone else review the English or running it through an AI grammar checker would help catch issues that might otherwise be overlooked.

I certainly don't expect perfection, but I do think improving the proofreading process would make a considerable difference.

You can criticize publicly available work, but it sounded as you were complaining and was demanding changes. Which make sense if you are donating (which I don't know until now and it's not my business), because you would be expecting your money to help the translating with high quality.

But you are right that you can criticize publicly available work! Excatly like I'm free to criticizing your initial comment :ROFLMAO:

I'm not saying that you need to donate to give feedback. My focus have being in how your feedback sounded, let me point where it sounded a little rude:
  • "This might sound rude, but if you're going to release the chapters in groups, at least spend the time to proofread what you're releasing."
    • The "at least"
  • "As usual, these chapters are filled with grammatical mistakes that are sometimes quite jarring."
    • The "as usual"
  • "How hard is it to run your translation through AI to double check your work if you're not a native English speaker?"
    • The "how hard is to"
And donating more or less doesn't address the underlying quality issues.
Maybe donating more helps them to have more time to proofreading... There is many variables to take in count.

Your criticism are valid, it's just how it sounded.

Anyway, you made your point how the chapters are filled with grammatical mistakes that are sometimes quite jarring. Wouldn't be possible to come here (in the forum) and comment the errors so they can change? You could use AI as you said.

EDIT: I'm sorry, I have being dragging this conversation for too long. Any translation mistake is good to be mentioned and show how hard you care about it.

I know that my text made many assumptions that it shouldn't (sorry again). I'm barely present in the forums so I don't know why I would judge your comment.

Well to be fair, he did started Drawing while the Silver plan JK manga was ongoing(or the other way around I can't remember) and he managed to finish that manga.

It also around that time the writer introduced the whole lore of his goddess in X.
ATM ojisan and Drawing might not share the same universe but it does share the lore between the goddesses. I think the writer is attempting creating his own comic universe like the DC and Marvel so imo, for the sake of continuity, they'll finish Drawing.

That silver plan is kind of rushed already for me. Theres that hint it could go for more chapters with the time travel stuff but he didnt continue and just go with the final arc.

No worries, and I appreciate the response. I can understand how my original comment came across as harsh, although the frustration comes from seeing the same problems persist for well over a year.

I've already provided a few examples, and the translator has responded constructively, so hopefully things will improve going forward.
