that was solid.
It helps having the extra insight of being a reader outside the story, but even from Youta's perspective within the narrative, Izumi has been markedly different from every other girl before.
It was a great decision from the author to only have her meaningfully interact with Reiya after over 30 chapters had passed, because even Youta gets a sufficient establishing of where Izumi's focus and intentions are—even if neither of them are cognizant of it (Izumi discovering her feelings only very recently, and Youta trying to ignore his own with diminishing success)—and it means that even as Youta is distressed and spiraling over seeing Izumi with his older brother, the momentum built up over all their interactions and time spent together means he still wants to try and reach out, and not run away once more. He'd already fallen, and she had spent enough time looking at him that he could have hope that maybe, just maybe, he should try in spite of being afraid.
And her affirming him and thanking him for opening up to her, and offering & agreeing to let him lead the conversation so he can tell his story, rewards the trust he put in himself by choosing to trust her through his anxiety and worry. They reveal new sides of themselves to one another in this moment, and it helps build them both up.
I like the throwback with the handkerchief, as well. The one who lead to him shutting himself off, being overwritten by Izumi's where he pushed himself to open up to her, is a nice closing of the loop on that part of his character arc.
I do wonder if we'll get the actual conversation between them, or if it'll happen off-screen with the aftermath being played out in the next chapter as they adjust to Youta finally telling his story. But it should be a treat, either way.
Thanks for the TL as always.
