I'm in agreement. He literally changed the day before at a birthday party. The idea the little ones will accept it quickly when the little girl flinched as ready to get hit.. the kids aren't going to forget the hands coming that quickly. They also won't completely change how they talk to someone like that.

They skipped WAY too much of the arc rebuilding and proving he isn't going to sell them or something. The premise is just too rushed.

The guild lady, used to dealing with him as the guild is ready to block him, the people in town who all fear him knowing he's scum and stealing from the orphanage, none of them should have forgotten this.

This kinda sorta reminds me of, "A B-Grade Adventurer with a Bad Guy Face Becomes a Daddy to the Protagonist and His Childhood Friends"

Except Loik is/was an actual bad guy lol

I clearly read the chapters 1-3 but

the quick 180 of what the children thinks of him still rubs me the wrong way. Heartwarming sure, but the progress feels more like forced rather than a deserved second chance.

Just my 2 cents

I understand your point, but in my opinion, children are at a stage where they can "forgive and forget"; they haven't yet matured enough to harbor hatred, grudges, or resentment. It may be due to their upbringing, perhaps they feel intimidated or are afraid of doing something that might displease a parental figure (as seen in Chapter 2), but these aren't necessarily severe traumas, and they can be resolved through a good redemption and by experiencing happy moments. Children are like dogs: they don't dwell on the past; they live in the moment. At that age, that quality has a profound impact on a person's development.

As for the other three, they were more resistant to accepting that change. Pre-adolescence is a confusing phase on the path to adulthood, so I think their reaction was logical, after all, they're still just children, and they lack any parental figure, and, in the end, they only have each other.

With my experience working around at-risk children, the younger they are, the less jaded they tend to be and so the more easily they open up. Under 6 year olds make sense to an extent on how much they can swing in different relationships. Above that age, they will be increasingly a lot more distant, resistant, and even violent at times to test if they can trust someone in a greater position of power. Memories of abuse don't ever disappear and become more front and center as children age.

If this were a whole new stranger that came to take care of the orphanage, then there might be some grounds for believability. However, the abuser is the one taking care of the kids, so the children should definitely be a lot more closed off to the MC than what the manga shows.

But that's alright that the manga does this. I'm here to turn off my brain.

Yeah at this point, trying to make sense of the reality of what's going on is hurting me more that he had already hurt them.

Let us just recover our suspense of disbelief and keep it as it is

For sure. Suspending disbelief helps to enjoy things more.

Thanks for the TL!

Gonna be interesting to see how he convinces the two other kids of his change

Not to say people can't change, or shouldn't be given the chance to, but they were under the previous guys thumb for a good long while. They should be much more weary of his sudden transformation into someone reliable.
True. Though, since this is fantasy, and since the MC literally did just have a literal personality transplant, I'm giving it a pass [from the C-PTSDer with copious developmental trauma].

The little ones turning on a dime isn't unusual. The older ones are wary, save for the poster girl, which as we've already seen is strained both from her own circumstances and her role in the orphanage, so she'd welcome any improvement in their lives, no matter the pretense. Besides, they are utterly dependent on his whims, to the point that he gets away with selling them into slavery in the original story. Being wary of him serves little purpose if he can do as he likes anyway.
Yeah, which is screwed up. Also screwed up is the normalcy of the kind of slavery I see too often in these stories.

Well, human trafficking isn't as uncommon as people like to think, even when it comes to children IRL. What is missing here is worldbuilding: his orphanage is apparently monitored by the church, since they subsidize him. There should be some explanation why they haven't taken an interest in all their wards just disappearing one day, it's not like they decided to skip some years growing up and left...

A pretty common trope though, take Reincarnated as a Villainous Duke to be Condemned by My Daughter: Even Though I Stopped Acting Like a Villain, My Daughter is Becoming the "Ice Princess" or I was reincarnated as the father of a villainess, so I dote on my wife and daughter. to name just two that came to mind right away for the insane whiplash of the female characters instantly forgiving the MC after years of abuse.

At least here it's a bit funny that he doesn't go all soft, but keeps some of his villainous attitude and becomes kind of a tsundere.
For ice princess, she at least has rationalizations for why he changed and excuses for why he was awful before. This doesn't. And iirc (the abuse) wasn't as outright evil as Loik's was. Mostly neglect and being harsh. But also, the author still had her doubt and worry and finally rationalize it away. This doesn't.

Pretty sure the older boy and 2nd oldest girl are probably still leery of him. Just the gremlins and oldest girl seem to have fully embraced him right away.

Plausible explanations could be:
1. Nobody cares because they are corrupt elites who sell-off children themselves [see Ascendance of the Bookworm ] where clergy are magic wielding nobles who view commoners are "inferior" who they frequently enslave or sell off. [Again, there is a whole plot about this in Ascendance of the Bookworm and other related series.]
2. MC's character was Bribing off Management.
3. Lack of oversight for various bureaucratic reasons [like why they have someone who isn't even a member of the clergy running the orphanage, for instance].
4. I'll let y'all come up with additional explanations. :3

That's the thing, it shouldn't be us who come up with those. It's the author's world and his job not to leave such gaping holes in it. It would be one thing if all his shenanigans were done on the down-low, but Loic is infamous around town as a shady character and everyone knows that he's misusing the funds received for his own amusement.

Agreed! And it is precisely because of the rentier finance capitalist hijacking of the industry, mass consolidation, and assembly line stratification of the industries [from webcomics to Manga style comics to western comics] that has led to this extreme systematic enshitification of the industry, which is the no. one factor for why the quality of comics has diminished so considerably over time. Nurturing editors are a fossil of an extinct species that was wiped out by rentier finance capitalists demanding ever more extreme extraction. When firms put all the capital or the majority into extractive measures all the way along form advertising on down in classical magazine publications where the vast majority of print advertising revenue goes to oligarchs and monopolies like Alphabet, Meta, etc., and then what's left over is further stratified for private equity, etc., extraction, there is almost nothing if not nothing left to actually maintain the quality of the product, the very reason people are no longer willing to shell out for "official translations" because what was a criticism of some firms has now become the definitive norm, leaving the often best quality translations to independent, relic/legacy scanlation/fanlation groups, all while the vast majority of translations are being scooped up by the young idiots who have chosen to mimic the very toxic, exploitative, rentier finance capitalist exploitation enshitificaiton assembly line to become the very thing that they or previous generations spent great length of print griping about ad nauseam.
