I actually knew someone who chose as Nonoka chose in this chapter. And if her story is the same as the person from my life, then I just hope she can be entirely self-sufficient and doesn't need to rely on her family in any capacity.
Or community support/social system, for that matter, given how Japan can be when it comes to social stigma and "going against the grain" like she's doing. Their mutual friends who run the inn, for example, could easily cut ties with Nonoka over this choice as well, since it seemed they were so close to Hiromi and would probably back him up, given the exact context and texture of the events playing out. But, if Nonoka is fine being a mother instead of a girlfriend or wife, then I guess more power to her.
But, none of that is actually important as far as the story is concerned.
I'm sure she won't be factoring back into the story after this, since there's really nothing more for her to contribute as far as Hiromi and the Sharehouse Five matter. But this also effectively cuts one more tie that holds him back from simply residing there and staying the original course; and once his grandmother passes, he's got no reason at all to go back home (i.e. no 'looking backward at what might have been').
Betting that the Five will now comfort Hiromi, and it will also signal that the four of them (minus Yukari) can officially start the race to winning him over. But since Tsubasa has a very jealous boyfriend now, I'm honestly looking forward to how that's navigated, since I would bet anything that Hiromi would be very disinclined to do anything cheating-coded after the number of times he's been burned in similar fashion.
From there, it's a question of whether characters like Lily are getting to "re-enter", since technically she's had her chance and it went down in flames. That said, we also had Hiromi's ex come back in for a spell, so there's already precedent for romance arcs to have a "part II" when it adds something to Hiromi's journey of self-discovery. So if Lily's going to get more than the "pining away" treatment, I do look forward to how she contributes on a second iteration.
