At this point I can't figure out if you are throwing shade, because you'd think it's kinda unprofessional to use someone else's translation even as a basis for your own, or you are just really really passionate about Yonezaad Monogatari, and want translation to be the best there can be, in which case it's kinda wholesome.

Or both, in which case I can't really judge you. :nyoron:

I'm just really passionate about the works of Hiroshi Masumura, let me try and explain.

You see, only a very little of Hiroshi Masumura's manga had been translated into English before I started translating his work. They were Chapter 1 of Atagoul Tamatebako which was translated in 2014, Chapters 1 and 2 of JARIA which were translated in 2016, and the one-shot Apple Town which was translated in 2023.

When I stumbled across the various mangas of Hiroshi Masumura (which included Atagoal and Yonezaad Monogatari). I was shocked to find that scanlators just weren't interested in translating this mangaka's work, even though Hiroshi Masumura's Atagoal appeared in several Japanese commercials, and got adapted into a movie in 2006,

the fact that Hiroshi Masumura's 1983 manga adaptation of The Night of the Galactic Railroad maybe inspired the design of the characters in the 1985 Night on The Galactic Railroad movie, and that one of Hiroshi Masumura's one-shots appeared on the Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in 1973 (Yes, that Weekly Shonen Jump)

After a while, I grew a major hyperfixation for any manga made by Hiroshi Masumura. And combined with a fear that I had that some of Hiroshi Masumura's works would end up being lost to time without being translated to English and the fact that no English scanlator wanted to translate any of Hiroshi Masumura's mangas, I had decided to start translating them by myself.

The problem is that I have to machine-translate Hiroshi's Masumura's manga because I don't know or speak any Japanese, and that makes my translations not 100% accurate.

And because of that I have to put a disclaimer in all my translations (including my translation of Yonezaad Monogatrai) that tells the readers that the translation was machine-translated and was done by someone with no knowledge in Japanese, and that the translation was supposed to act as a placeholder translation until a better English translation was created by a more professional scanlation team. I also write translator notes indicating which textboxes might not have been translated accurately.

I'm fine with scanlation groups using other translations as a basis for their own, I'm just sad that Arkadia Team would use a machine-translated scanlation that's not 100% accurate as the basis for their Polish translation of Yonezaad Monogatari. I would have rather liked for Arkadia Team to use a translation of Yonezaad Monogatari made by a profesional scanlation team as their basis, but as of right now, my English translation is the only English translation there is for Yonezaad Monogatari.
