I'll be probably still use the new system, but I kind of don't trust it enough to go full sailor talk.

That change from "pornographic" to "mature" is a big red flag. I would probably self censor myself out of caution like in other manga comment sites.

"Golly gee, what beautiful fields of flowers doth thy maiden possess."

(That is assuming that basic chapter commenting is not paywalled):meguuusad:

I can see both sides, meaning I both would love a comment system that didn't have me open another window to comment on the chapter I want to comment about. BUT, I like the forums.

@Mangamoz
Real ones will remember when in V3 it was actually just called 'hentai' instead of 'pornographic'. :dogkek:

If it has exactly the same features as the forum, then sure, I guess I’d have no problem with it. But this is what was stated:

'Social style’ commenting has its usefulness, but it’s (or can be?) very ass for deep conversations and debates, so we are keeping the forums around for that.

So it doesn’t seem like it’s going to be the same. At best it’ll be like an X post, and at worst like a Manga Plus comment. So yeah, I don’t have high expectations.

MangaDex putting comments behind a paywall on content that people upload for free would be one of the most hypocritical things I’ve ever seen. They ban groups for paywalling chapters, so they’d basically be doing the same thing themselves.

@Litreara No more in depth theories.
Only "LOL FIRST!" allowed. :meguuusad:

Exactly! What are the scanlation groups receiving in exchange for this paywall? The only reason this site exists is because of the scanlation group's work, yet they will receive nothing.

It's truly peculiar that the site is generating revenue through piracy and exploiting the efforts of others.

It's very possible and it would mean a huge downgrade. But at the same time it's a little too open for interpretation for me to say for certain. What really makes something 'social style commenting'? The placement? Aesthetics? Limited character count? Text enrichment features? One could simply argue that having comments under a manga chapter isn't very inviting to have 'deep conversations and debate', whereas a forum might.
I guess only time will tell what's going to happen.

Thanks for taking the time to explain your side of the story. I appreciate it. (y)

Guys, they said it's only going to be open for people with the supporter/contributor role at first.

The contributor role is given to people who frequently submit valid reports and it's a temporary situation until they're sure it works. There has been 0 indication afaik that it's going to be paywalled. I think some people are just mistaking the contributor role for the supporter role. :facepalm:

@Litreara
I think you are misunderstanding that part. They are still testing the comments so currently it's for supporters only, next it'll be for contributors, and then later for the everyday user.

And even Bart has said this too:

Thanks for the support (pun unintended), but I'll take the L here. I thought they were initially only opening the comments to contributors instead of supporters, but the fact that it's a temporary testing period still stands.

Though I will add that it'll be interesting to see if the change will make it harder for people to add forum discussion threads during the testing period or if they have a nice feature switch based on the logged in user's role.

@Mangamoz just raised a hypothetical about MangaDex putting comments behind a paywall, and I said it would be hypocritical if they did that. I was just arguing based on that scenario, not saying that’s what they’re actually going to do.

Ah, I see. This is why I dislike having convos in profile posts, it gets so hard to keep up/keep track of the conversation.. :nyoron: :aquadrink:

It would be nice to avoid going too deep and upset about hypotheticals when there's 0 indication that such a move is even considered. It wouldn't be nice for this to be taken out of context and spread misinformation after all... 😓

I guess we’ll have to go to… heavy sigh… Reddit if we want more substantial discussions.

I mean I already am over on reddit as Shakmoz(which by the way is the OG profile name)

But I rarely ever use it these days, mostly in Rent a Girlfriend forums.

@Mangamoz Wait a second. Do you read and discuss about Rent a Girlfriend? (No judgments, but it's rare to find someone who enjoys the manga :kek: )

Me, and I assume @Mangamoz too, only go to the Rent-a-Girlfriend subreddit to laugh at people who take that dumpster fire seriously.

@gimme_yuri_plz Yes I got into it when the chap 218 scandal happened.

Best chap.
