The translator’s note is wrong: “Saiyuki” is the Japanese name for “Journey to the West,” an ancient Chinese story. Sanzouhoshi refers to the main character, a Buddhist priest. Son Goku is the Japanese name of the Monkey King. (Dragon Ball Z’s Son Goku is based off of the Monkey King.)
