@gintamacountry @mat87 I agree with your assessment of “concert.” It’s a bit much in this context. I think @Thjgthgt is correct that “gig” is a better word. It’s not only British, we use the term in America too. I’ve known a few (American) musicians over the years and they all say “gig.”

@Simpleton Fair point. I was aware of the relatively small number of unique Japanese names compared to some other cultures, but did not realize how common this particular combination is. I should have said that it amused me.
I wonder why the author went with a famous person’s name for a one-off character. Nothing wrong with it really, but it would be funny reading something in English with a character named Barry Bonds, or something like that.
When Kaoru said he’d be a neet if he doesn’t get Into Todai I figured that between his connections and the impression he made at his debut in the original series he could probably be a pro dom. And then a few pages later, lo and behold.
