There are no good light novel adaptations~

Pretentious dumb action schlock full of unlikable, underdeveloped characters. Its attempts to touch on big ideas hampered by its immaturity and inability to write characters that actually act like human beings.

Be warned going in that ~60-70% of this manga is spent explaining corruption in japanese politics. That being said it's still awesome. If you don't like those parts you can probably skip over them and still enjoy the story, although they are kinda the whole point.

@Miravyre Wow! Why hasn't anyone thought of that before? Why criticize anything when you could just leave? If we only voice our fanboy praise, every series ever created is a perfect 10 out of 10! This is amazing they're all masterpieces now! Incredible!

Enjoyed this series back when I was a kid, but even then I had problems with it. Same problem I have with a lot of those death/survival game manga. Their premises are incredibly stupid and contrived, but they take themselves completely seriously. It's not just asking too much of your suspension...

@SakuraOrihime Mangaupdates claims it's completely scanalated. Still seems weird to me, but that is apparently the end. There are sequel and spin off series now.

Just because something is enjoyable doesn't mean it has amazing writing.

I guess they call them "light" novels because they're too derivative and shite to be considered actual novels.

@draiphalim I'm just sick of super strong protagonists in general. It's like these author's don't care about tension or storytelling at all, just shoveling out regurgitated wish-fulfillment.

I know it's really not, but the premise makes it sound like this is aimed at total chuunis.
