Wow we're finally at the morning of the Shimada/Kiriyama match~! I wonder if Kiriyama is going through the same level of nonsense lol

What a fun chapter, and such a contrast to pretty much every other appearance of mahjong in manga lol. I loved that they still kept the presentation style of a "real" mahjong game even through so much nonsense.

I appreciate scanlating these ad chapters, altho they are really just ads. Although maybe it's a little more unilateral in its praise, it still excels in what I like in this series: expressing the joys of simple and attainable pleasures. I love visiting fancy department stores, in Japan...

Weird that we went for such a long stretch - basically the whole series - before we got a chapter that really underlined how scummy Ootsuki and co. can be. Like they could have made this chapter purely heartfelt, Ootsuki could have just thought of doing this as a nice moment for his peers, maybe...

nice game club avatar~ i love that series so much i like chapters like this that highlight some of ootsuki's more atypical qualities... i think often he's written such that we can project ourselves into him, an everyman who loves every pleasure in life, but he's actually kinda weirdly singular...

Really wonderful ending. I love the idea of bookending his appearance in Kaiji. In Kaiji, he was just scum, we rooted for his downfall, and reveled in it. Then we read this, we see the vulnerable and confused man before he was scum, we sympathize with him, we feel bad for how he was left in...

What a poetic and powerful chapter... I was blown away by Murakami simply accepting Ichijou's request without any other questions or complaints, but I think it really represents their relationship well. Murakami knows when Ichijou is insecure, or scared, or otherwise really needs him. And he...

We're heading into such a tragic climax... but by having his freeter life end on such a high note, it's preserved forever as this shining happy memory. It really informs how we see him act in Kaiji.
