I think the author forgot how distance vs speed works, MC takes ages to get around even at high speeds but somehow these groups can keep getting back within a few days even though they took ages getting anywhere.

I'm with mostly everyone, why would he need that amount of gold? He literally has a treasure trove of ancient or higher equipment that he could make more then that in a snap. This convienience writing is pretty piss poor.
