    Maybe I'm missing something but "she's a rescued slave, I adopted her." feels like it would dispose of some unneeded secrets. Not to just anyone of course but close people might notice cracks in stories over time..

    Oddly it's not unheard of for serpentine monster girls to be depicted with additional breasts. Age of wonders 3 off the top of my head has that on theirs. A paralell to a males snakes extra equipment perhaps?

    Well I don't know many of them, but Shonen Jump for example. Thankfully that one doesn't butcher chapters as far as I know. There are plenty that don't do it, but it seems to be becoming more prevelant.

    Hard to say, the lore can be a little inconsistant. Depictions at the festivals seem to imply they do it openly, and one once traded with a human in wild and horned hermit after he found something of theirs to get it back, Iirc the old man was quite aware of it.
