Not gonna lie, I was expecting like a direct confession or something. Even if it was x years later situation.

I like how this chapter is both a flashback with characters introduced later in the story and a somewhat backstory to how Riko got the compass rolling down the hill in the first chapter

I don't think I have read that many manga that focuses on religions as much as this chapter did, alone. Unless the series is based around that concept, they hardly ever mention a religion.
