MD USA Meetup 2: Electric Boogaloo

@Beregorn North America (including Canada) seems to generate about 40% of the site traffic The SEA region is one of our bigger audiences as well, with Indonesia specifically coming in third right after USA and Canada

    Reader README.txt

Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience. Fixed a couple of small issues, most notably the "Preload all" button not working as it should have.

Forgot about the quick search, but fixed that too.

    Search not escaped :fixed:

@p_consti Fixed The example url you have there doesn't work, but using ampersands (and other special characters if there were problems with them) in the search fields should be fine now

Welcome to the site! (MangaRock refugee thread)

@throwaway4ccount They said they'd "take content off mangarock.com" by the end of September, whatever that's going to mean. Wouldn't be surprised if a new site called mangastone or something magically pops up. In the meantime, they're predictably keeping up the usual operations because the apps...

Adding a Spoiler Tag for certain genre tags :rejected:

There's going to be issues anyway if the tag spoilering is handled on a tag-per-manga basis, and not just because of the additional database complexity. Just the fact that a tag is spoilered is already a kind of a spoiler in and of itself, since it lets you know to expect some kind of a genre...

Adding a Spoiler Tag for certain genre tags :rejected:

If it's something that "spoils" the very premise of the story, I don't think it's worthy of being called a spoiler.

Don't mark a chapter "read" if I back out at the missing chapters warning :planned:

This is a hard limitation due to the fact that requesting the chapter data already automatically marks that chapter as read in the backend and it's a holdover from before the time I was even a dev. It'll be fixed whenever I have time to write a more sane system for managing markers.

"Last edited by" info for titles/descriptions

@kaza_hesto Edit history is already available to mods, so just pm one and explain your issue. This stuff is outside my scope, but I imagine there may be reasons for not making information like this public (such as avoiding edit wars getting personal, I suppose).

    Content tag addition/discussion thread

That's not what I was arguing against, I was talking about nudity in and of itself. You're not wrong that if it's used in combination with Ecchi (or notably in Ecchi's absence) the level of fanservice would be more easily discernible. Like I already said though, treating it as a freestanding tag...

@kenx I would love to do that and I've had some preliminary ideas but there's way too much stuff to get done first.

Suggestion to improve the double page reader

If we were to store them as a couple of simple integers, sure. That's not necessarily what would happen though, since we shouldn't be counting the same user twice. It's one row per chapter per user and guests would be ignored. I believe the views are counted based on the caching the IP for 6...

Welcome to the site! (MangaRock refugee thread)

@sniper23 We subsist nicely on donations and a bit of our own merch for now. You can see our server costs here. If we started making this site actually lucrative, making money off of other people's content wouldn't be just rumors.

Suggestion to improve the double page reader

This is unfortunately not the case, as you can find especially with releases where the scanlators include relevant cover/color/spread pages from the magazine or they might exclude blank pages from the tankoubon scans and so on, all of which may throw the orientation off right in the middle of...

    Content tag addition/discussion thread

That was the point: It depends entirely on what raws the groups are using, thus making the difference chapter- or group-specific rather than title-specific which is what we're actually looking for here. Visible nipples is not a good predictor of the level of fanservice of a work, since neither...
