Pretty sure he did? It was a mitigating factor in his sentencing (along with his young age) which is why he got out fairly quickly. He just doesn't open up about the full sequence of events because he feels its his fault that his sister died and that he could have done something more.

Given that this manga is supposed to be "semi-autobiographical", what that guy said is basically the author's criticism of herself. He seems to be a representation of her most intense self-critical thoughts, with a mixture of legitimate criticism and unfiltered hate.

True, but I would have expected it to be more overt, like he literally knowingly became a teacher specifically because he was a pedophile. Plus there would be more public freakout and mental breakdown moments, and some people would be inexplicably ugly.
