Honestly it's so annoying how people give 1 star ratings for no reason...

Take solo leveling for example.
Ok..I get it you dont like it but is it true that the 1 star rating how much you dislike it?

That makes so many good comics stay with low rating which makes people stop reading them = translators giving up the comic...

well the reverse problem exists too, giving 10 's. If anything giving 1's is hardly a problem. Out of 29000+ rated manga, only 25 are even rated below a five - average, less then 130 total are rated below a six - fine. So about 29,000 are described as fine, good, very good, great or masterpiece.

taste is completely subjective. someone's 10 is another person's 1

personally i disliked solo leveling. probably not enough to give it a 1, but it'd be sitting at a solid 3-4 if i cared enough to rate titles i was totally bored by

I don't think they're giving the 1 star reviews for no reason, in their mind they had a reason to hate the manga. Everyone has different opinions on different things and this means some people will just hate something sometimes. Also there are so many high-rated mangas on here, and most people give out high ratings to a good chunk of what they read. So, I don't think leaving a bad review based on your personal thoughts on the manga will hurt anyone. At least, I've never seen someone give up a comic on here for bad ratings, usually they do it for time constraints, lack of scans, lack of readers etc.

Eh, not much you can do considering people preference are vary. Tamarowa pretty much has harsh score because of the ecchi and scene despite have well written story.
I honestly prefer people don't give rating if they don't like something without a reason because it's really misleading of how the story maybe good. I prefer them give rating if the story end up bad or read at least 3 chapters before giving score. I personally only gives score after few chapters are out

Taste is so subjective that I go by "if I don't have anything positive to say, I don't say anything at all" when it comes to manga. That has led me into a binary attitude towards rating: I only rate something if I like it so much I want other people to read it, and then I give it a 10. Otherwise, I don't rate it at all. In other words, I only rate things I consider masterpieces. The rest, I don't care whether someone will read it or not, so the rating doesn't matter to me. I also choose what to read by synopsis and art, I don't look at the rate until I've made my decision to rate it or not.

It's just like a YouTube video. Even the most popular video with great content would still get dislikes.

Im more concerned about the 10s, personally. People rate 10 everything they like. I mean its fine you can rate 10 whatever you want, but for me 10 should be reserved only for masterpieces.
But oh well, peoples preferences varies, a 7 for me can be a 10 for you. Nothing can be done on inflated scores.

In my opinion, low ratings and averages are more impactful than the reverse. Who actually believes a series is great on high ratings alone? I'll see for myself, thank you very much. However, if the rating is low then the positive aspects have a shade on them. I like this but an abnormal amount of people don't... Is this not as good as I thought?

But that's just part and parcel for rating systems and groupthink.

Oh, and what about people that gave scores when there are only like 5 chapters in the manga uploaded? I argued with someone that way and he/she said "well that's a mangaka's job to make a story as interesting as possible and I just don't find it interesting, so the mangaka failed, thus deserve the 1 score I gave it". I know only rating manga once you finished it wholly is not always convenient, but maybe giving scores when the manga is still in its introductory phase is kind of stupid. I mean, what if you read the whole thing and find out that the whole story gets better? It happens you know!

Sorry for ranting. I'm still salty about it.

The real problem is in hentai mangas cause anything that's not someone's fetish is immidietely 1 starred. This is problematic cause there are good hentais and there are bad hentais, fetish considerations excluded, and the rating system on MD became unreliable cause people mass-1 star lolis and yaois.

The only value to ratings is for getting a new series you like with few votes briefly into the "Top Manga" section, where it will get exponentially more popular.
