In the novel MC knew of the scandals from following the news, in here it says he researched the family itself on his own, of course I could have missed the part where he says to have done both things in the WN.

I say this because one of the names MC wrote down was the girl father, and he didn't knew who it was, but if he researched the family and discovered the crap the girl lived because of him it would be weird if he didn't knew who he was.
