The story lead you to believe eventually the mask would be taken off in some chilling reveal, but nope there was only sadness.

Cool camera angle change. Oof to Yuuma's parents tho.

But the story.. seems to remind us of the delay between how our parents look and how they are now. That is, especially as we're growing up.

We can always assume that Mom in the story has just been extra stressed over the past several hours, hence the veins and hoarse voice. Hands also become wrinkly after being wet for a while. But grey hairs appear over a longer period of time. And the "other, more long-term" kind of wrinkly skin comes with age. Headcanon, that kid hasn't been paying attention to their mom very much and hadn't noticed those changes. In some cases, maybe Mom has also been dyeing her hair, an example of stuff that makes these details harder to notice.

Parents, grandparents, relatives, friends.. we see our loved ones subconsciously as a vague average of what we "usually" think of these people. It's shaped by how we spend time with them.

Plus, it's easy to forget that we're not the only ones growing up. Or more generally, getting older. Changing. So as generic as it sounds, keep your loved ones close. If you don't catch up with their lives, you might see them one day as complete strangers. Though, that may just be an exaggeration.

At the very least, when you have peeps close to you there's less of an excuse - to go out to the movies, to have dinner, to walk outside, to go to places, to ask for help with anything, to ask if they need help instead, to chat about little things, to talk about deeper topics, to have fun, to offer a hug - to just connect at a more subconscious level with them. While they're still there. Right?

God I miss 'em. But anyway, thanks Yuuma. Off to the next chapter ✨🐙
