What an ending! Thank you for the translations... this was an excellent read the whole way through.

Thank you for the work, Bobby!

So.
While there is no real rule about stopping midway through the 100 stories, the spirit Yuuma managed to summon into Hina's body made it clear that she (it?) would keep hounding him until he tells the 100th story. Her hounding had cost the policeman his arm, Yuuma's dad his life, and Yuuma's stepmom her brain; the only reason she had to keep Yuuma alive would be to tell the 100th story, so one way or another, he would have to tell the story.

He's messing with a force beyond his comprehension, so his only way out—to nip the stories in the bud before anyone leaves Hell, so to speak—is by ending himself.

He could've chosen to rob his ability to speak, but since the spirit could still make Hina speak while her head was turned around whole (can you imagine the anatomical disaster behind that?) and even make Umakin claim a life, I think he would've suffered way more.

Also, on the brighter side of things, his suicide may finally bring the abuses he'd suffered into heavy scrutiny. His dad and stepmom won't get to live it down quietly for the rest of their miserable afterlives, even if stepmom recovers.

Hina also showed that she has the balls to go over the ritual again, knowing that it has real repercussions, so she bites back. If the police need a lead, she'll definitely provide.

Yuuma's death will grant him justice and it finally reunited him with his mother.

The only remaining loose end here is really Hina, and that's the exact loose end the mangaka picked up for the cycle. Beautifully done.

I skimmed the chapters. But did anything happen to the abusive father and stepmom? I remember the paranormal investigator and police officer died.
I remember the ghost brutally attacking the dad and the stepmom. Don't remember if they died.

Detective Kido did mention back in Ch. 71 that it was dangerous to forcibly interrupt the storyteller mid-way through so Yuuma as the initiator ending things on his own terms before the ritual completed was probably the correct decision all things considered.

I remember the ghost brutally attacking the dad and the stepmom. Don't remember if they died.
We never saw Yuuma's Dad again after the attack in Ch. 85 with Hina confessing she had a nightmare of killing him in the next chapter which strongly implies he's dead. But in Ch. 90 Hina agrees to be bound by Yuuma who confronts his Mom after she takes possession of Hina's body to ask that she not kill the Stepmom too while embracing her, implying she survives. That said, I hope the Stepmom receives a long prison sentence anyway though after the story's end for the pain and abuse inflicted on Yuuma resulting from the inevitable investigation of his death.

Wow, what a great ride. The stories were really clever and different. Congrats to the author for making the 100 stories successful and with an excellent ending.

Looking forward to the next 100 ghost stories, perhaps by Hina now?

Official popularity poll where you can spam vote for your favorite chapters as many times as you like, closes in 3 days
For those seeing this in the future, the results among readers were as follows for the top 10 (out of the ranking of 100†):
#01 - Night 08 - Fight (1351 Votes)
#02 - Night 56 - Won't Forget (1107 Votes)
#03 - Night 100 - Mom (706 Votes)
#04 - Night 03 - Clayman (521 Votes)
#05 - Night 97 - Kokkuri-san (451 Votes)
#06 - Night 41 - Schrödinger (428 Votes)
#07 - Night 47 - Riding Duo (328 Votes)
#08 - Night 17 - The Boy Who Was Thrown Away (302 Votes)
#09 - Night 38 - Leaving the Mountain (254 Votes)
#10 - Night 22 - Pretend Not to Notice (216 Votes)

11,405 Total Votes Cast

Now it's not a scientific poll by design, but you'll notice huge support garnered by the top 3 and I'd offer no complaints about the 1st place winner which really does capture the tone of the entire manga well. In addition, it's interesting to note that 4 of the top 10 stories picked by fans (56, 100, 97, and 38) were told by Hina despite her rarely ever being the featured storyteller. Now #100 is, of course, a bit of special case being told by Hina about Yuuma. Some other interesting trivia is that #47 which placed 7th was the story told by Officer Takayagi the only character beside Hina, Yuuma, or his Mom through Hina to provide a tale of their own.
