Dude, what? That is not how it works. It is the gold itself that is valuable, not whatever king or country stamped on it. I hope that line of thought is in-character, not the mangaka's total ignorance of the history of gold as currency dated back thousand of years.

Through the history any currency was valued based on gold or on some other rare resource (in rare cases). If Gold coins are made out of gold, then you can just sell that gold in other country where gold price is high.
That sentence was stupid.
Also, is it just me or all of them went to attack that monster/malita? By now they would know how to find secure position to hide one person in.

The exact word used in the raw was "kane" (money) rather than "kin" (gold) although they share the same kanji (金).
I think it's more of a general rant and gold being the particular material of the currency (merchant actually says 3金貨 - 3 gold coins) is irrelevant.

Gold doesn't mean necessarily mean literal gold here. A good business man will put a vast majority of his fortune into other things (loans, real estate, stocks, etc.). One does not become the wealthiest man in the kingdom by locking up his gold inside a vault.

Perhaps the translation was a bit off, or maybe the MC literally thought that, he's just a middle schooler after all.

@hayashidayuki ok so a few chapters ago he was thinking regarding the theories that heroes come every 20 years or so and said that in 20 years he would be 72 years old if he did live that long in which case since he died 3 years ago and 20 years have actually passed since the heroes were last there then his age of death is 69 years old
