150,000 yen for a months work, I bet a conbini employee can earn that same amount maybe even more in a month, ain’t much for Japan considering average income there is around 3.6 mil yen for individual and around 5 mil for a single household maybe around their area where its not a city its a lower so I guess you really have to love the craft and not just have money as a reason to do this kind of things.

Edit: looking at other comments seems like they also use silver in the making of copper wears so chances are they earn less than 150,000 yen considering the production cost so yeah conbini full time employee earn more. I mean they probably sell something with higher price tag for special costumer and art pieces obviously are sold higher but yeah if the kettle is master class and only cost 150,000 it’s really cheap all things considered

"Showing how A loves B by having A explain, with some difficulties, why B's work is good, and how A just like to admire B's work and like it when others also admire B" is probably my second most favourite 'style' of romance.

Number one being B doing the same with A, so it's mutual respect and admiration between two people.

@greatninja3 They don't just do a single piece in one month. It takes one month to make a single piece like that, but the artisan would be working on multiple pieces during that month. Also, the reason it would take a month can be seen on the wall behind Shuu. Each molding anvil corresponds to a particular "movement" in the shaping of the copper, so the artisan would usually hammer multiple pieces that require that same "movement" in one go, then prepare another molding anvil for the next, run several pieces (not necessarily all from the previous batch he was working on), and so forth. It's the finishing touches that require full concentration, so usually the artisan would pick a special time in the month to concentrate on a single piece and just finish it. Successful traditional artisans in Japan can make as much as or more than a senior engineer in a big company. Their workshops are also usually subsidized by the government in the form of property tax deductions and other methods.

Good girl! Stopped gramps from having a meltdown, reformed a rude customer, and got to brag about her boifwi all at the same time.

@sssr I'd also imagine that craftsmen, much like professional potters, have select clientelle like restaurant owners, bar owners, or even dining ware/cutlery shops who order bulk products just as well as individual products
